The Lord Who Heals You

Primary Texts: Exodus 15:26; Isaiah 53:4–5; Matthew 8:16–17; James 5:14–16

Introduction

Healing is not just something God does—it is part of who He is. From the first pages of Scripture to the ministry of Jesus and the life of the early church, we see a God who heals bodies, restores minds, and renews hearts.

When God revealed Himself to Israel, He declared:

“I am the LORD who heals you.”

This same God is still healing today.

I. God Is the Source of All Healing

“I am the LORD who heals you.” (Exodus 15:26)

Healing does not begin with medicine, doctors, or human ability—though God can use all of them. Healing begins with God.

God heals:

  • Physically

  • Emotionally

  • Mentally

  • Spiritually

Every true healing finds its source in Him.

II. Sickness Was Never God’s Original Design

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2)

Sickness entered the world through sin, brokenness, and the fall of humanity. But healing flows from God’s redemptive heart.

Jesus did not teach people to accept sickness. He confronted it. He rebuked it. He healed it.

III. Healing Is Revealed Through Jesus Christ

“He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” (Matthew 8:17)

Jesus is the clearest picture of God’s will.

Wherever Jesus went:

  • The sick were healed

  • The blind saw

  • The lame walked

  • The broken were restored

The cross was not only about forgiveness of sin. It was also about restoration.

“By His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)

IV. Healing and Faith Work Together

“Your faith has made you well.” (Mark 5:34)

Faith does not earn healing. But faith receives what God provides.

Faith is:

  • Trusting God’s power

  • Believing God’s promises

  • Acting on God’s Word

Faith does not deny pain. It declares God is greater than pain.

V. God Heals in Different Ways and Times

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church…” (James 5:14)

God heals:

  • Instantly

  • Gradually

  • Through prayer

  • Through medical care

  • Through community and support

God is not limited to one method. But He is always faithful.

Delayed healing is not denied healing. God is still working.

VI. Healing Includes the Whole Person

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

Some wounds are visible. Others are hidden.

God heals:

  • Trauma

  • Grief

  • Fear

  • Shame

  • Rejection

Sometimes the deepest healing is not in the body—but in the heart.

VII. We Are Called to Pray and Believe for Healing

“The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up.” (James 5:15)

The church is meant to be a place of healing.

We pray:

  • With compassion

  • With humility

  • With expectancy

Healing glorifies God and testifies to His love.

Conclusion: A Call to Trust the Healer

God is still healing. God is still restoring. God is still faithful.

Whether healing comes immediately or over time, we place our trust in the Healer, not the process.

Today, Jesus asks:

“Do you want to be made well?”

Bring your sickness. Bring your pain. Bring your faith.

The Lord who heals you is here.

Closing Prayer

Lord, You are Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. Touch every body, restore every mind, and heal every wounded heart. We trust You completely and receive Your peace and power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
